2022 is the 20th anniversary of Mask which features Jeff Gauthier on electric violin, Nels Cline on guitars, David Witham on piano, Joel Hamilton on bass and Alex Cline on drums. The title piece is a 4-part work based on an experience the violinist had in Guanajuato Mexico on Christmas Eve, drinking tequila and contemplating a wall of Mexican masks while Billie Holiday sang "I didn't Know What Time It Was" on the radio. At midnight all the church bells in Guanajuato began to ring and a transcendental experience ensued. The video above tries to capture some of the experience.
